Hello and Goodbye in London, UK

Hello and Goodbye is on at Southwark Playhouse, London from 14 Oct to 1 Nov.  More details soon.

Valley Song in Afrikaans

Valley Song is the first Fugard play translated into Afrikaans - Athol's mother-tongue - as "Lied van die Vallei" (Song of the Valley - literal translation), with Athol Fugard's approval.

The official Afrikaans premier is on 24 Sept 2003 with the opening of the Nieu Bethesda Theatre, and will run until 27 Sept. Dr Marianne McDonald is the sponsor of the theatre.

At the dress-rehearsal and preview on 23 Sept, local residents from the previous disadvantaged groups filled the theatre to capacity (88 seats), while the late-comers didn't mind standing at the back!  Positive comments and compliments have been more than generous from the appreciative theatre goers, especially due to Nieu Bethesda being the setting for the play.

The cast is Writer/Buks- Arno du Toit, Veronica- Sonja Boezak.  The translator/director is Idil Sheard.  All three of the above-mentioned are permanent residents in the Valley.

The Island in Massachusetts

The Island is at MIFA, the Massachusetts International Festival of the Arts.

It is directed by Malcolm Purkey, and the actors are Thami Mngqolo and Mpho Osei-Tutu.  It is a Side Street Production, Johannesburg.

Its on from 16-19 Oct 2003 at the Alice Withington Rooke Theatre, Mount Holyoke College, South Hadley, MA, USA.

The Gate Theatre, London are presenting Dimetos from 2-28 Jun 2003.

Dimetos is performed by Trevor Sellers. The director is Ben Ormerod, designer is Ti Green and lighting designed by Mark Truebridge.

My Children! My Africa! in Vienna, Austria

My Children! My Africa! is being performed in Vienna, Austria.  Performances are in English.

Its on from 18-29 Mar 2003 (Tuesday thru Saturday), with the premiere on 17  Mar, a Teachers’ Preview on Sunday 16 Mar and an Open Dress Rehearsal on Saturday 15 Mar 2003.

Cast Members are Eszter Hollosi (Isabel), Allen Browne (Mr M) and David Wurawa (Thami).  Directed by Martin Buxbaum.  It is presented by the Vienna Theatre Project.

The Island by Athol Fugard, John Kani Winston Ntshona

The actors are David Paladino and Ken Rosier and the director is John Parsonson.

Its on from 28 Feb- 6 Apr 2003, Fri & Sat night at 8.00pm and Sun at 7.00pm at The Beverly Hills Playhouse, Beverly Hills California, 254 South Robertson Boulevard (One & half blocks south of Wilshire Boulevard).

My Children! My Africa! in Ireland (Irish premiere)

Galloglass Theatre Company presented My Children! My Africa! in Clonmel county Tipperary, Ireland on 20 Feb 2003 and now it goes on to a nationwide three week tour as well as playing Dublin's Theatrespace 24-29 Mar 2003.

The Road to Mecca directed by Zakes Mokae

Zakes Mokae will direct The Road to Mecca from 13-23 March 2003.

The actors are Ray Favero, Charlene Sher and Jeanmarie Simpson.

It will be at the BlackBox Theatre at UNLV.  It is by the Nevada Conservatory Theatre, in association with the Nevada Shakespeare Festival.

Blood Knot in Washington

Blood Knot is on at the AFI Theater at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, from 14 Nov- 1 Dec 2002.

It is produced by the African Continuum Theatre Company with artistic direction by Jennifer L. Nelson.

Michael Glenn plays Morris and Jefferson Russell plays Zachariah.

Other credits are Dan Coey (Light Design), Tom Donahue (Set Design), Mark Anduss (Sound Design) and Lavonne Lindsay (Costume Design).
