The Trial Henley College Production Notes
What
is exciting about Berkoff's adaptation is that he
unleashes the physical reality of Kafka's imagination
onto the stage. K's trial becomes a personal quest for
answers but also a very public trial. The chorus
represent his conscience and observe his journey as we
the audience do. The parable of the door becomes the
physical trial, represented by the ten doorframes on
stage. Berkoff makes the actor the set, the storyteller,
the narrator. His physical style of theatre embodies the
art of the imagination. |

West Max Blinkhorn 15 Aug 2002 Les Enfants Terribles' production of Berkoff's West is an adventurous effort which has a lot of excellent components but the whole does not exceed the sum of the parts. |
