I saw Blasted at the Royal Court last night. It was certainly one of the most interesting pieces of theatre I've seen in a long while. What strikes me about the play is how the audience is subjected to such a rigorous stripping down of human personality. It is clear to me that Kane wanted to ask- how can normal, safe human life relate to the terrible extremes of suffering and cruelty which exist. I'd be interested to hear your views on the play.

Hi Allyson, welcome to the wonderful world of Sarah.

You're right, there's hardly any work on 4.48 Psychosis, partly because it's still fairly recent, partly because of its exceptional nature - people don't know quite how to approach it, or are perhaps a bit afraid of treading that ground - also the play gets tiptoed around for sensitive reasons. However, try all the 4.48 connections on the Links page, and also this review:

Best wishes for your studies, hope you can get to London to see some of the plays in the spring, and feel free to share any opinions/thoughts on Sarah. I've got to check out Kathy Acker now you mention her!

Hello-- A latecomer to Kane's work, I first read Blasted last year in, of all things, a class on Transgressive Art. As a person doing a thesis on Kathy Acker, I was hooked imeediately. So now I read 4.48 Psychosis and fall into a need to know more, to explore. To write a paper on it, seeing as how I'm a student. Unfortunately, there's very little work on the play. If anyone knows of any, or has any sort of insight they'd like to share, post a reply and we can talk. Thanks!
