symbolism in Ken's films. In "Monster Rally" by Edward Robinson, there is an essay titled: "Eating the Worm" and subtitled: "An Interpretation of Ken Russell's 'Lair of the White Worm'" by S. Michael Wilson, in which the essayist points out all the symbolic references in James' (Grant's) dream sequence in the film.

Some of it is obvious, even to me.

The SST is symbolic of the white worm.

The red tip felt pin is obvious of you know what.

But some of it is less obvious, at least to me.

Did you know that the connect-the-dot crossword puzzle is symbolic of James' (Grant's) subconscious?

That the pocket watch is symbolic of the passage of time.

And the essayist goes on in like manner for several pages.

Of course, the essayist concludes at the end of the essay "Then again, I might be reading too much into it."

Okay. But I say, who cares. Let the essayist loose on some of Ken's other films, and let us see what symbols he cand find in them.
