Post by: Iain Fisher on October 16, 2008, 05:05:12 PM
Steven Berkoff has a book of poetry coming out early next year (2009).  Called You Remind Me of Marilyn Monroe it is described as "From sensuous, stream-of-consciousness declarations of love to a brooding meditation on the wreckage of a relationship, this collection of an acclaimed playwright's verse gives us an intimate glimpse into his thoughts, pains and passions."

More details when available.

The book has just been issued.  62 pages with 22 poems.  I'll give more on the poems themselves shortly.

One poem I like particularly is The Kiss.  To quote the first verse

Quote
Most of all in the night, suddenly feeling
desperately alone I awoke, forgetting for the
moment as I surface through the clouds of a
dream.  Forgetting that my mate lay next to me,
my mate sleeping beside me... I turned to face
her suddenly, and in that one desperate second of
loneliness I turn to hold her fast but firm in my arms as if a
thousand years away and in that one desperate
second I rushed to seize her as if I had returned
home from a desperate voyage.

Claudia Bites, a blogger, has posted Berkoff's poem Nothing Can Take That Away from You Remind Me Of Marilyn Monroe.

She describes it as "an exquisite collection of the most dark, wondrous poems about love, loss, longing and sexual intimacy I've come across in a very long time...enjoy!".
