Savage Messiah: Ken Russell / Lair of the White Worm in the USA
« Last post by Iain Fisher on January 19, 2025, 10:53:48 AM »
The Grand Illusion Cinema in Seattle present The Lair of the White Worm on 17 January 2025.

“Russell’s compositions are gorgeous to look at, though it’s the deliciousness with which the story unravels that made Lair of the White Worm Russell’s most enjoyable film since his masterpiece Crimes of Passion.” Ed Gonzalez, Slant

“What’s so wonderful about Russell’s quintessential female villain is that she embodies a sense that evil has no gender. It has no feelings. It simply is, and it’s quite fun to get to know it.” April Wolfe, Film Comment. On the same day the cinema also show The Cell by Tarsem Singh.  The film is heavily influenced by Russell.

Savage Messiah: Ken Russell / Crimes of Passion in Knoxville, USA
« Last post by Iain Fisher on January 15, 2025, 04:40:23 PM »
The Knoxville Horror Film Fest present Crimes of Passion on 15 February 2025.  It is in a double bill with Gus Van Sant's To Die For in the Central Cinema.

"CRIMES OF PASSION, a trashy romp featuring electric performances from Kathleen Turner and Anthony Perkins... In the early 1980s, British filmmaker Ken Russell (THE DEVILS, TOMMY) travelled to America and placed his unorthodox imprint on CRIMES OF PASSION—a crazed erotic thriller starring Kathleen Turner (SERIAL MOM) and Anthony Perkins (PSYCHO). Fashion designer Joanna Crane (Turner) leads a double life. At night, she is China Blue, a prostitute who has attracted the attention of a psychopathic priest (Perkins). With its outrageous script by gay screenwriter Barry Sandler and sparkling score from Rick Wakeman of the band Yes, CRIMES OF PASSION is a movie that could only have been realized by the gonzo creativity of Ken Russell".

Athol Fugard discussion / Camino a la Meca (The Road to Mecca) in Alicante, Spain
« Last post by Iain Fisher on January 13, 2025, 12:01:43 PM »
Teatro Principal de Alicante present Camino a la Meca (The Road to Mecca) from 2- 3 May 2025.

DirecciĂłn: Claudio Tolcachir, elenco: Lola Herrera, Natalia Dicenta, Carlos Olalla.

Hi there. I accidentally found this topic and I am very glad that people are interested in finding this rare film. Personally, I would like to see it not so much because of Ken Russell (sorry ;D ) but because of Steve Pemberton in it (my favorite British actor plays at least two roles in there). I see that no one has offered this clip here yet, so... This is the announcement of the TV Cultura channel for 1994: https://youtu.be/ArMaXRh7oow?si=D8gNgkQEXBh9zaL6 Starting from 1:05. VHSRip quality I suppose.

The portuguese title of "Alice in Russialand" was "Alice no PaĂs dos Russos". Hope that can help you a bit. Cheers!

hello! i found it and uploaded to youtube! :)

Hi, Iain,

A podcast has gone up featuring a couple of hours of conversation between myself and
"The Broken Halo", a new podcast series dealing with the "creative life". The thread includes some
of my film experiences and a warm sharing exchange about my own biographical life and creativity.
It may be of interest to a few here. In any event, my very best, as usual, and keep your sense
of wonder. Keep up the great work. The link is below:

He is anxious to shield his dreamy, restless sixteen year old granddaughter from temptations beyond the valley. She is equally anxious to be a singer in faraway Johannesburg. Her self made songs brim with the longings of youth.  Valley Song is a coming-of-age story about a young girl seeking the courage to embrace the future while her grandfather searches for the wisdom to let go of the past".
