Title: 'Love me or kill me' Emma
Post by: archive on August 19, 2007, 06:26:40 PM
After the long wait I was finally able to read Graham Saundrs book. This is an excellent resource for any student hoping to learn more about Kane and her plays. However, it is an interesting and accessible read for anyone who has experienced her plays on the stage or the page. I think that it has filled a hole in the research material available on Sarah Kane. I recommend it to everyone who has visited this site!

I totally agree with Emma. It combines so much information with an open writing style.

One part I liked was abut the draft version of Blasted, where Cate seduces Ian to find information about his illegal activities. Interesting how Kane started with melodrama, then sharpened it down to the final play.

And on Crave I liked the comparisons with TS Eliot.

Another interesting point on the first draft of Blasted was that the soldier was identified as Serbian. Perhaps if this direct reference to Bosnia had been kept in, the reaction might have been more measured?
