Sarah Kane discussion / 4.48 Psychosis touring in The Netherlands
« Last post by Iain Fisher on February 27, 2026, 07:41:54 PM »
Sarah Kane's 4.48 Psychosis is performed in Dutch at the Frascati Theatre, Amsterdam from 17-28 February 2026.  On 26 and 28 February there are Dutch and English surtitles.  There is then a tour of The Netherlands:

8 Apr 2026 Ins Blau, Leiden
22 Apr 2026 Het Nationale Theater, Den Haag
  2 May 2026 Corrosia, Almere
13 May 2026 De Schuur, Haarlem
 15 May 2026 Frascati, Amsterdam

The director is Erasmus Mackenna and Sabine van Kuipers performs the piece.  The translation is by Han van Wieringen.

"In 4.48 PSYCHOSIS ontmoeten we iemand die samenhang probeert te vinden in een afbrokkelend bestaan. Omringd door een gewelddadig landschap van liefde en verlies, wordt er obsessief naar tederheid en helderheid gezocht. Geplaagd door dysforie, achtervolgd door geesten en verlamd door schaamte en woede, rouwt die om het verleden, het heden en vooral om de verloren toekomst".

Thanks to Ineke for the information.

Savage Messiah: Ken Russell / Tommy in IMAX theatres, UK
« Last post by Iain Fisher on February 22, 2026, 10:27:16 AM »
Ken Russell's Tommy will be shown in IMAX cinemas on 17- 18 March 2026 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the film's release.

"This classic rock opera is brought energetically to life by an outstanding cast including many stars of the rock music industry. Told through the remarkable music of The Who, this is the story of Tommy, who, when just a boy of six, witnessed the murder of his father by his mother (Ann-Margret) and her lover (Oliver Reed). They command him, “You didn’t hear it, you didn’t see it, and you won’t say anything to anyone…” As a result, the traumatized boy retreats into the shadows of his mind and becomes deaf, dumb and blind. Growing into manhood, Tommy (Roger Daltrey) is subjected to several bizarre cure attempts by The Acid Queen (Tina Turner), the Preacher (Eric Clapton), and the Specialist (Jack Nicholson). In spite of his handicap, Tommy defeats the Pinball Wizard (Elton John) and becomes the champ, attaining a devoted following. When he is finally cured, he is hailed by his fans as a Messiah”.

Athol Fugard discussion / My Children! My Africa! in USA
« Last post by Iain Fisher on February 12, 2026, 09:44:52 PM »
THE 222 in Healdsburg, California present Athol Fugard's My Children! My Africa on 13- 15, 20-22 Feb 2026.

The director is Robert Parsons and the cast are Ansley Valentine (Mr. M),  Isaac Addai (Thami Mbikwana), Emma Lenza (Isabel Dyson).

"My Children! My Africa! is Fugard’s masterpiece about South Africa circa 1985. In the last gasp of Apartheid, violent protest and resistance on all sides is at its height. A gentle Black high school teacher in a rural township invites a White high school girl from the town nearby to form a radical, cross-racial competitive debate team with his best pupil. The racial, economic, and identity conversation that blossoms among the three is cut off as the revolutionary wave sweeps them all away. Your heart will ache at the beauty of the language and the storytelling from South Africa’s master-writer, Fugard".

« Last post by Iain Fisher on February 11, 2026, 01:37:13 PM »
"The stage lights of the Mandela Bay Theatre Complex (MBTC) shone bright on Monday evening as the 10th annual Iphulo Drama Festival opened in grand style, but the spotlight was not only on the performers- it was also on the ambitious vision for the future of the arts in the Bay.

MBTC chief executive Monde Ngonyama used the occasion to unveil bold plans for the city’s arts landscape, including the proposed Kani-Ntshona-Fugard (KNF) Performing Arts Precinct, a project with a projected cost of more than R20m, after the completion of a detailed feasibility study."

Athol Fugard discussion / Camino a la Meca (The Road to Mecca) in Spain
« Last post by Iain Fisher on February 06, 2026, 11:51:04 AM »
Pentacion present Camino a la Meca (The Road to Mecca) at the Teatro Municipal de Torrevieja on 6 Feb 2026.

The director is Claudio Tolcachir and the players are Lola Herrera, Natalia Dicenta and Carlos Olalla.

"La obra se inspira en la figura real de Helen Martins, una artista que, enfrentándose a las convenciones sociales de su tiempo, convirtiĂł su vivienda en un singular santuario repleto de figuras y creaciones orientadas simbĂłlicamente hacia La Meca.  El montaje aborda cuestiones profundamente humanas —la reafirmaciĂłn personal, la libertad en la madurez y la resistencia frente a las limitaciones impuestas por el entorno— en un contexto marcado por la dureza del apartheid sudafricano.".

Sarah Kane discussion / Cleansed in London 2026
« Last post by Iain Fisher on February 04, 2026, 03:43:53 PM »
Sarah Kane's Cleansed is at Almeida Theatre, London from 21 July to 29 August 2026.

"Two lovers and two siblings.  How far are they prepared to go to prove their devotion? And will their love survive when subjected to the most extreme violence?

Sarah Kane was one of the most original and controversial voices in British playwriting history. Rebecca Frecknall (A Streetcar Named Desire; Cabaret) directs Kane’s masterpiece which explores the brutality of desire and asks what happens to love when there’s nothing else worth living for?".

On a rainy afternoon, Hally, a white teenager, passes the time with Sam and Willie, two Black waiters who have helped raise him by filling the gaps of a broken home with warmth, wisdom, and laughter. But as the day unfolds, playful memories give way to painful truths, and a single moment threatens to shatter the fragile bond between them forever".
