Peter Cushing's dressing room is a good place to get inspiration, from all the Hammer films to Star Wars.
For those who don't know Jon directed a film Alien Blood which is certainly Ken influenced, and the DVD has some good extras.

Sadly Tina Turner has died.   She was of course iconic in Ken Russell's Tommy.



I recently added some comments from her autobiography on the site:
 "I was offered the role of the Acid Queen....  Ike [Turner] kept me on a very short leash, so it was exciting whenever there was an opportunity to get out from under his shadow.  I was thrilled... I brought my own clothes to the set, just in case I didn't like the costumes.  Thank God!  You should have seen how they would have dressed me... The costume designer, Russell's wife Shirley, said that I could wear them, although she came up with the Acid Queen's clunky platform shoes.  Ken Russell loved the way I looked" (Tina Turner, My Love Story, 2018 chapter 5).

Natana School Of Theatre Arts present Kaniveya Haadu (Valley Song) , translated by Dr. Meera Murthy and directed by Dr. Sripada Bhat.  It is on 21 May 2023.

Crimes of Passion will be shown as part of the After Midnight film series in Coolidge Corner Theater in Massachusetts.  It is screened on 26 May 2023 at one minute before midnight.

"In the early eighties British enfant terrible Ken Russell traveled to America and placed his unorthodox imprint on a pair of US movies. The first was Altered States, so out-there its screenwriter disowned it. The second was the equally crazy Crimes of Passion, starring Kathleen Turner (Body Heat, Serial Mom) at the height of her powers".

I haven't read it, sorry.  It costs £85 (£70 second hand) and London libraries don't have it.  I could try suggesting to the library that they order it, but I doubt they would order it given the costs and limited appeal.  I suspect it will be available in University libraries, though the one I tried didn't have it.

It is for me too much for a book I have yet to find reviews on.

By coincidence I just found a launch event for the book on 25 May 2023 "join us for the launch of Leah Sidi's new book Sarah Kane's Theatre of Psychic Life: Theatre, Thought and Mental Suffering, followed by a drinks reception. This is a hybrid event, supported by the UCL Health Humanities Centre".

Book author Leah will be joined by Dr Hannah Greenstreet (University of Liverpool) and Dr James Rákóczi (Durham University) for a discussion about Kane's relationship to feminist theatre, mental health, and the medical humanities.
