Cleansed- David Hackston

Having previously only heard debate about the works of Sarah Kane and never having actually seen any of them in Britain, it's strange that the first play I see is in Helsinki: the premiere of the Finnish translation of Cleansed. What a powerful experience, what a terribly uplifting final scene. The whole production gripped me and the translation was also excellent. There is in fact, not quite a retrospective, but a small Kane Festival this autimn here in Helsinki: 4.48 Psychosis is showing at the National Theatre. It has been completely sold out all autumn, but strangely Cleansed - in a much smaller theatre - has had very small audiences: WHY? This is a truly elevating performance from a fantastic young and energetic group, which has absolutely made me want to see the originals. Anyone in Helsinki should go and see these two plays immediately (KokoTeatteri - Cleansed, Kansallisteatteri - 4.48 Psykoosi).
