Sarah Kane discussion / David Toole
« Last post by Iain Fisher on October 18, 2020, 11:58:23 PM »
Sadly David Toole has died.  A double amputee he played the soldier in a revival of Blasted in the Soho theatre, London.  He gave a memorable insightful performance.  Despite being a double amputee with no legs he was also a dancer with DV8 dance company.

A comment from slunglow theatre "we are all so sad to hear of Dave Toole’s passing. It was such a privilege to make so many adventures with him. He had an extraordinary talent, he was a brilliant actor and the very finest dancer we’ve ever seen"

Savage Messiah: Ken Russell / 10 Greatest Sci-Fi Films Ever
« Last post by Iain Fisher on October 07, 2020, 10:45:31 PM »
This is Farout Magazines's view of the greatest sci-films

10 Reanimator. A film I never really liked

9 Scanners.  Classic early Cronenberg, with Patrick McGoohan (The Prisoner)

8 Altered States by Ken

7 Cube.  Nice idea but I didn't think it stood up for all the film

6 28 Days Later.  A string of classic films- Shallow Grave, Trainspotting, Slumdog, but Danny Boyle seems to have lost it a bit (or I haven't seen later hidden gems)

5 Videodrome.  Same Cronenberg category as above, with James Wood and Debbie Harry (Blondie)

4 Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978 version).  Good film, remake with Donald Sutherland was also good

3 The Fly, Cronenberg remake.  Don't really like, I like the original with Vincent Price

2 The Thing, John Carpenter remake.  A classic.

1 Alien, also a classic as is Aliens

The article is from here

What is missing?
  • Blade Runner
  • 2001 A Space Odyssey
  • THX1138 - early George Lukas. Predates and very different from Star Wars
  • Solaris by Tarkovsky
  • The War of the Worlds- the original NOT the Tom Cruise one
  • Predator or Terminator
  • The Man Who Fell To Earth with Bowie

Sarah Kane discussion / Crave live online
« Last post by Iain Fisher on September 24, 2020, 11:47:05 AM »
Chichester Theatre are streaming live performance of Crave from  31 Oct- 7 Nov 2020.

Originally due to play in the Spielgeltent this autumn, Crave will be staged to a live, socially distanced audience in the Festival Theatre and simultaneously live-streamed to global digital audiences.

"In a damaged world, four characters search for the light.
Angry, funny, defiant, kind and cruel, Crave is a deeply personal meditation on the meaning of love. Pulsing with loss and longing, its resonance will be doubly powerful as we begin to reconnect our lives after the loneliness and seclusion inflicted by a global pandemic."

This production will feature a sensory sound and videoscape created by director Tinuke Craig, designer Alex Lowde and sound designer Anna Clock.
