Title: Sick- Sven

Can anyone tell me a bit more about "sick", Sarah's first three monologues? Why aren't they published?

Sarah herself deleted them because people kept misunderstanding them (as later happened to Blasted) and she got pig-sick of it.

I myself would love to see these monologues, as would every Sarah Kane enthusiast who only got into her from '95 onwards, so we can only hope someone connected to one of the theatre companies who performed them still has a copy and surfs on in here one day...

They'd better not! Sarah only wanted the work in 'Complete Plays' to survive her, and that's why, as copyright owner, I won't allow it to be published. If you love her, respect her wishes.

...and it's not just that really. Sarah didn't want them to be available because she felt that the real body of work was the stuff from Blasted onwards. Each is distinct and stands by itself, but the whole set is 'complete' in a sense as well. She didn't feel that the stuff prior to Blasted, and the unfinished work after Blasted (I sense I'm opening a can of worms here...) was as polished or mature as she would like. The bits of the monologues she really liked resurfaced in the published work anyway, particularly Crave and 4.48.
