First of all why bother with a manifesto?

Seriously there are very few cases where people have done a manefesto for the arts and haven't been crackpots. In fact the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Valarie Solanis. Better choice of words is say Plan or Mission statemet. Unless you have a political aim then I wouldn't use the word Manifesto.

Personaly I think if you are planning your own teatre group or way of doing theatre then don't base it on a couple of writers that you like. Go with what is in your heart not what a set of rules say you should do. Even Lars Von Trere got fed up with the Dogmé95 rules. Theatre isn't about sticking to rules, it is about passion.

Don´t totally agree, Jaidn :-)

Steven Berkoff did a manifesto at the beginning of his career (actually what he wrote was called "three theatre manifestos"). It wasn´t so much an attempt to write rules to restrict himself, but to clarify his thoughts, and put his passion on paper. I like the title manifesto because it sounds subversive.

What sort of assistance do you need, Lee? Why don´t you tell us some of your initial ideas and we can shoot them down or build them up :-)

Iain

I'd forgottern about Berkov's Manifesto's. Though, I guess it's just my personal veiw that manifestos seem restrictive.

That said Valarie Solanis's writeing wasn't as good as the scenes in her bio pic make out.

I would take issue with you saying Valerie Solanas wasn't a crackpot!
