Title: Crave - another intertexual reference?
Post by: houdini on July 12, 2008, 04:19:55 PM
Hello everyone!

I was re-reading Crave and thought that M's line "there is something in the way" (p.155 in the Complete Plays) could be a reference to Nirvana's song "Something in the Way", included in the 1991 album "Nevermind".

Could also be a reference to the Beatles song? Unlikely but possible.

I initially thought no, but then remembered she did use The Beatles Things We Said Today in Cleansed.   I agree it is unlikely, but let people decide themselves.
I'll include it in the glossary and give you a credit, also houdini for the Nirvana quote.  Thanks to both of you.

Hiya,

This is a little unrelated but in terms sarah kane quotations. The entry for: remember the light and believe the light is referred to Tibetan Book of the dead. thought it might be helpful to add that this echoes Aslan in the Silver Chair (C.S. Lewis) 'Remember the signs & believe the signs' command. That links into the allusion to Prince Rilian who is enchanted except for 1 hr a day when he is in his right min but people think he is mad.
