I directed 4.48 earlier this year. There are loads of tips and insights in this discussion - look further up the page. I found the best way of looking at the play was to examine the sections that the play is divided into, and try and give them a name (like a DVD chapter title) based on what that section is about. "Lost love",Or "Guilt" or something. Then think about how you can best represent that meaning in an original yet clear way. You are trying to create a feeling in an audience after all. And think about everything - voice, movement, tempo - how can best get that feeling you got when you first read the play across to an audience? good luck, this play is f*cking amazing.
