Hi Nekto,

It sounds a great project.  I like your music clip, hypnotic and it builds up an atmosphere.  It will be great to hear how 4.48 turns out.
I don't know of anything with people working together all over the world.  In terms of the music some things I immediately thought of:

- Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet  by Gavin Bryars:
   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dnYA0w4cWiE
- and a version by Tom Waits
   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nh1iahfrkUQ&feature=related

- and the Philip Glass soundtrack from The Thin Blue Line.

I don 't mean they are the same, I mean to me they share aspects of your vision.
Be careful over copyright.  You can be "inspired by" and quote but not use large segments of text without permission.

Let us know how the project goes.

Dear fans and students of Sarah Kane,

I have an idea for an audio production of "4.48 Psychosis" and am looking for any like-minded artists potentially interested in collaborating on this idea.  I am an amateur aspiring electronic music/sound art maker, particularly interested in experimental, drone, minimalism and "dark ambient" genres (my major guiding lights are Steve Reich, Phill Niblock, Coil, Apoptose, among others).  I've always been interested in electronic treatments of spoken word recordings, and have lately been learning more about the "tape music" tradition, in which sound collages in time and space invite a listener to experience sounds, including the sounds of human speech, in new, unexpected ways.

I have been aware of Kane's work for some time now, though I have been somewhat apprehensive about studying it closely.  Having recently overcome this fear by starting a careful examination of "4.48 Psychosis", I found that this play screams out for the kind of experimental, loop-based, audio theater that I would like to try staging.  I think the under-appreciated medium of audio(radio?) theater is ideally suited to immerse the audience in the phenomenal experiences expressed by the work, while still remaining true to its radical minimalism.

I am making it sound too academic, but the thought of paying homage to Sarah Kane in this way is exciting to be me for more than formal reasons.  Quoting the author herself, "To create something beautiful about despair, or out of a feeling of despair, is for me the most hopeful, life-affirming thing a person can do."

I am looking a person or group of people who might be interested in collaborating on a project like this in the near future.  I am mostly interested in vocal performer(s)/actress(es)/actor(s) interested in being the voice(s) the performance.  How much creative input you have on the production will mostly depend on you and your interest.  If you just want to record a reading of the play and not hear from me again until the product is finished, that's fine, or if you want to be involved in the editing and arrangement process, I'd be open to either possibility.  Best of all, as long as you have the ability to record, digitize and upload sound, you can be anywhere in the world!  (I am in Vancouver,  British Columbia, Canada) Either way, I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Also, I am not too aware of this having been tried by anyone before, so I would very much appreciate it if people would draw my attention to any precedent for this dream of mine.

Just for a taste of what my approach is, here's a short demo excerpt from a project I am working on right now in an effort to develop and refine the techniques that would work for the "4.48" idea.  This is very much a work in progress, but it can give you a general idea of where I am coming from:

maai - ambient dream garden - nothing demo

(the source material here consists of friends' dream stories collected about a year ago).
