I got an interesting piece of feedback after my production of Cleansed closed. I was talking to two friends of mine who are Indigo Girls fans, and I mentioned that Kane specifies that Blasted in set "In a very expensive hotel room in Leeds", and they told me that apparently those exact words are the opening lyrics to an Indigo Girls song, apparently about the media and its role in reducing atrocities to simple stories: one of the most prominent themes in Blasted. Unforunately they couldn't remember the exact title of the Indigo Girls song, nor which album it appeared on.
Now I know Sarah drew a lot from her favourite popular music, but we couldn't figure out if Sarah stole it from the Indigo Girls as a clever reference, or whether the Indigo Girls were paying tribute to Kane and Blasted in their song. (I don't know which came first- the song or the play.)
Does anyone out there know anything about this? Which song is it? What year did it appear? Has anyone picked this reference up before?
