Title: Ken Russell and the Dance
Post by: BoyScoutKevin on September 17, 2011, 09:24:03 PM
Looking at the folk dancing in "Mahler," reminded me many dance performances, of different types, there are in Ken Russell's films. Here is just a short list.

"The Boyfriend"
off-Broadway (of a sort)

"Lair of the White Worm"
Chinese dragon dance (of a sort)

"Lisztomania"
a la Busby Berkeley

"The Music Lovers"
the excerpt from "Swan Lake"

"Salome's Last Dance"
"The Dance of the 7 Veils"

"Valentino"
two to tango. Rudolph Valentino (Rudolf Nureyev) and Vaslav Nijinksy (Anthony Dowell)

"Women in Love"
a la Isadora Duncan

And the question becomes why. Is it because Ken Russell once had a career as a ballet dancer?
