Sarah Kane discussion / Blasted in Canada
« Last post by Iain Fisher on Today at 12:15:06 AM »
Post Productions present Blasted in Windsor, Canada.  The dates are 1, 2, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15 & 16, Oct 2021.

"this brilliant, intense, brutally beautiful, and subtle play - one of the most controversial and influential scripts of the 20th century - for Windsor-Essex audiences. In BLASTED, Ian, a middle-aged journalist, arranges a rendezvous in an upscale Leeds hotel room with Cate, a young woman with whom Ian hopes to rekindle a relationship that ended several years before. Outside their room, war is coming with an unseen and unspecified enemy. Unseen, that is, until a soldier arrives and the hotel room, and out assumptions about what's going on, are blown to pieces".

It is the original in English but also has French subtitles, but these are not too distracting.

The Music Lovers is Ken's film about Tchaikovsky and got him an Oscar nomination.  It stars Glenda Jackson who won her first Oscar.  One of Ken's best films

If you go on to the BBC site they have some of Ken's early documentaries, including Pop Goes the Easel.  It is from 60s television, black and white, but gives an idea of how Ken developed.

Athol Fugard discussion / Nongogo in South Africa
« Last post by Iain Fisher on August 28, 2021, 10:41:46 PM »
A rare chance to see a very early Fugard play, Nongogo.  It is on at The Playhouse Company, Kwa-Zulu Nataal from 28 Aug- 4 Sept 2021.

"Directed by the legendary Bheki Mkhwane, Nongogo... will hit with shows running... Set in a shebeen outside of Johannesburg in the 1950s, the play focuses on the life of a shebeen queen who was once a prostitute. The production highlights some of the most thought-provoking topics about women".

Which films are you looking for?
It's so hard to me find Ken Russell movies, in fact I have The Devils, Tommy, Women In Love, The Boy Friend, Altered States, Crimes of Passion, Gothic, Valentino, The Lair of the White Worm and Whore. I have only mainstream movies by him, but I really love them. I don't have all the others.
