Michael Gough dies
« Reply #1 on: March 17, 2011, 11:45:38 PM »
Michael Gough has died at the age of 93, a good run.

The papers mention him as Batman's servant in four Batman films.  But looking at his career of 178 films from 1946 to 2010 there are lots of interesting roles, including two Ken Russell films, Women in Love and Savage Messiah.

What else.  Hammer films (Dracula) and the Hammer rival Amicus (Dr. Terror).  Also a very very silly British Kong Kong copy Konga which I know because I like Steven Berkoff and it is one of his earliest roles- worth watching to see how bland and silly films can get.

More what else: a television play of Doris Lessing's Play With a Tiger from 1967 (she is one of my favourite novelists).

Other films of interest: The Sepent and the Rainbow, Out of Africa, The Boys from Brazil, and the televsion series Shades of Greene based on short stories of Graham Greene- my favourite novelist.

His last film, Alice in Wonderland from 2010.  He was also in an Alice almost 50 years earlier in 1966.

What a superb career as a supporting actor.
