While Russell has done a number of theatrical films on the subjects of politics and/or religion, only three of his films, that I have seen, have combined the two subjects in the same film. From the least obvious the most obvious.

3. "Mahler"
Christianity vs. Judaism and something of the politics of it.

2. "Lair of the White Worm"
Christianity vs. paganism obviously, but some people also see the film as a commentary by Ken on Thatcherism.

1. "The Devils"
If not Ken's best film, then one of his best, and how politics uses religion and religion uses politics for the benefit of both.

Next time: "The Best/The Worst"

While Ken Russell has done a number of theatrical films on the subject of both politics and religion, seldom has he combined the two subjects in the same film.

Billion Dollar Brain
Lisztomania
are, in part, on the subject of politics, but they are not on the subject of religion. While . . .

Altered States
Crimes of Passion
Salome's Last Dance
Tommy
are, in part, on the subject of religion, but they are not on the subject of politics.

Next time: the 3 of Ken's films that combine the subjects of politics and religion in the same film.
