I suggest  Adam lobbies the British Film Insitute   and   ICA  projects to  discuss  with Warner Brothers  any opportrunities for distribution rights in the UK

An article, Passionate outsiders, in the Financial Times by Peter Aspden on 21 Jan 2011.

The article looks at the value of artworks, but Gaudier and Savage Messiah get an honourable mention:

"....The striking relief of two wrestlers by Gaudier-Brzeska on sale at the Fine Art Society costs £95,000, which is not cheap for the casual visitor, but a positive giveaway in a world of multimillion-pound Damien Hirsts. There is a palpable and satisfying link, too, between the French-born sculptor and the Romantic tradition that has dominated art for the past two centuries. I am of a generation that was inspired by Gaudier-Brzeska’s story as depicted in Ken Russell’s moving 1972 biopic, Savage Messiah. There is little room today for that view of the artist as passionate outsider. They are too good at business..."

In a letter Ken wrote to me years ago, he said he got his video copy of "Savage Messiah" from Hong Kong! 

Over here in the US, "Savage Messiah" was released on VHS that was modified from its 1:66/1:85? ratio.  While MGM released letterboxed versions of "The Boyfriend" and "The Music Lovers" on laserdisc, "Savage Messiah" never made the transition.

As I understand, Warner Home Video now holds the video distribution rights to a lot of the MGM/UA catalog.  Being that Warner's has not even released some of their own Russell titles,  "Lisztomania" and "The Devils", who knows when one will be able to  see "Messiah"

My first version of the film not only had a logo but also Dutch subtitles.

No news of a DVD yet, and given that it is also not available on video it must be the rarest Ken Russell masterpiece. My favourite bit remains the ending when Ken shows Gaudiers work.

No news of DVDs for The Devils nor The Boyfriend etc. Good news is that In Search of the English Folk Song is coming onto DVD.

 Is this film ever going to be released on DVD? I plan to show it at my uni's film society but will have to make do with a video from the TCM television channel which has an anooying logo in the corner. Ah well
