We are two A level students doing 'Lunch' for our exam this May. For this we have to write a written performanxce concept which must include social, historical, political and cultural context. We were e-mailing to ask if you knew what date 'Lunch' is set in?

Hi Lily and Eddie,
A good question. The play was premiered in 1983 though Berkoff wrote it earlier (I need to check when). I don't think the play is bound to a particular time period, I think it remains valid now. The time period will be the 70s and 80s (assuming he wrote it in the 70s), if you are looking at the context I would take this.
Does this help? Let us know about your project, it sounds interesting.

There is a production of Lunch in London from 8-14 July 2013 at the Rosemary Branch theatre.
"A man, a woman and an unwanted sandwich: Stephen Berkoff's Lunch explores the collision of small talk between two strangers stranded on a sunny seaside beach."
