I suspect what came in the way was Warners.  They seem frightened to release the film, even without the Rape of Christ scene.

Sometime we will get the film restored, and with Mark Kermode's documentary as an extra.

Sadly the title disappeared from Warners release calendar for 2008. I don't think it was a hoax (those few lines by Mr. Lucas seemed to me a bit too much paranoid). In my opinion, this time Warner really wanted to release it, but something came in te way (again?). Let's hope that the online petition has some effect on the company and this true masterpiece of cinema will see the light of day in the near future.

This seems to be a hoax if you coincide with Tim Lucas: http://videowatchdog.blogspot.com/2008_02_24_archive.html
