Title: Glenda Jackson as King Lear

Glenda Jackson, one of the greatest theatre actresses, who left the stage for politics, is returning as Shakespeare's King Lear.

I can't wait.

Interesting casting choice.

She certainly has the acting chops to pull it off.

And it is not the 1st time that an actress in modern times (i.e. within the past 150 years) has played a male character in Shakespeare. And I'm not talking about "Shakespeare in Love." As I believe that Shakespeare's Hamlet has been played by an actress sometime in the past.

Is that "King Lear" or "Queen Lear?" Not saying that it'd work as well, but . . . could it work, using Shakespeare's words, for the most part, if there was a complete sex role reversal in the play?

If the king was now a queen.
If instead of 3 daughters, there now was 3 sons.
If the Fool, instead of being a man, was a woman?

I probably won't get a chance to see it, so . . .?! If someone does see it, how about a report on how well it does or does not do?
