Interviews and documentaries Stanley Kubrick: a Life in Pictures 2001
A documentary about film director Kubrick. Berkoff appeared in A Clockwork Orange and Barry Lyndon by Kubrick. Berkoff appears in this documentary for a few seconds only. The DVD is part of the Kubrick complete boxed set and is not available individually, though is shown on television.
East End through the Ages 2001
Berkoff talks of his life in the East End as well as looking at the East End now. He covers the Battle of Cable Street when crowds stopped a fascist rally from entering a Jewish neighbourhood, with Berkoff´s uncle playing a major role. Another uncle was a boxing champion. Enjoyable nostalgia from Berkoff.
Audio Cassettes Berkoff´s Macbeth 1990
Berkoff as Macbeth and Linda Marlowe as Lady Macbeth. Linda Marlowe is good in her role conveying the range of emotions, but Berkoff´s performance suffers from audio, with the reflective scenes becoming too cringing. The three witches are played by Jazz singer Cleo Laine. It doesn't quite work, but is interesting. A conventional production produced by David Benedictus. All-in-all it is good, though, despite the title, demonstrates only one facet of Berkoff.
Metamorphosis and the Judgement 1995
Berkoff reads the two Kafka stories. Enjoyable and intelligently read. Note it is not the play, but the story.
The Trial 1995
Berkoff reads from Kafka novel. Enjoyable and intelligently read. Note it is not the play, but the story.
CDs Shakespeare's Villains: A Masterclass in Evil 1998
A live performance. Recommended. Berkoff performs excerpts from Richard III, Iago (from Othello), MacBeth, Shylock and Oberon from a Midsummer Night Dream. Especially interesting are Berkoff´s comments between the excerpts. The memory of how Olivier did Richard III and how every actor since then has to compete with this is especially good.
Greek, an opera 1988 The CD of the opera by Mark-Anthony Turnage mentioned above. |
